Collegno was the largest asylum in Piedmont, a city within a city, a factory of three thousand employees representing an essential economic resource. The dismantling it has opened a social crisis due to direct contact between former residents and citizens, causing, in fact, unprecedented issues in dispute. Considering the difficult overall conditions, the dismantling of the mental hospital has become an emblematic case Collegno to study how law enforcement and the subsequent social and urban transformation of the entire city. Thirty years from the application of Law 180 of 1978 that reformed psychiatry and methods of treatment of mental illness, this volume (the result of the research project teaching historical memories of the asylum: the dismantling and re-functioning of the psychiatric hospital Collegno designed and funded by the Department for educational policies and the safety of the City Council and coordinated by Laurana Lajolo) illustrates how citizens collegnesi had at the time responded to the measures of social integration of ex-patients and which have retained memory of the asylum and procedures for dismantling. At the completion of the research project was attended by teachers and students at the kindergarten, primary and secondary schools of the city, officers and directors of the City and those involved in cooperative social margin.
